LONG ASSOCIATED WITH WEALTH AND LUXURY, THE ASSOCIATION CONTINUES TO THIS DAY...
Sophia and Pilar dresses are made from 100% French linen, regarded in Europe as one of the best quality fabrics. Centuries old and steeped in history, linen is made from the stalk of the flax plant or “Linum", from which it derives its name, and is one of the world’s most prized fabrics.
Read on to find out why generations upon generations have known and appreciated its qualities...
IT'S HEALTHY FOR YOU
Linen is perfect for those who have sensitive skin or suffer from allergies, and has many other health benefits besides, as the seeds contain fibre, protein, and minerals such as magnesium, which is known for its calming, relaxing effect.
It is also virtually lint free, non-static and naturally insect-repellent, and in addition, it gives UV protection.
Linen, considered as being the strongest of all natural fibres with fibres being approximately 1.2m long, is a structurally sound fibre which keeps its shape.
It has been dated back to 8000 BC and in fact, in ancient Egypt it was used as currency.
Interestingly enough, it’s also been found to get stronger and softer with washing,
Linen production has a low environmental impact as flax plants are a resilient species that can grow in poor soils requiring very little, if any, fertilizer, and the production process has a low water footprint.
Almost all of the flax plant can be used, and with the demand for flax seeds and oils increasing in the health food industry, there is very little to no wastage of the plants.
LINEN IS COOL AND PLEASANT AGAINST THE SKIN.....
Linen has high “wick”, a term used in the textile industry which refers to how breathable a fabric is, or its ability to channel moisture away from the body of the wearer.
Pure linen fibre is smooth and hollow, and can absorb as much as 20% of its weight in moisture. The hollow nature of the fibre also gives greater air permeability, and so absorbed skin moisture is quickly released into the surrounding air.
The resultant effect, combined with the smoothness of the fibre, will always keep your skin feeling cool and pleasant.
Linen is also a natural insulator, as the hollow fibres create an insulating layer of air during the cooler months which traps body warmth, so it is a true trans-seasonal fabric..
